FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF MARY
LAY ASSOCIATES (MALAYSIA)

Why were they formed?

  • It’s a Calling from The Church since Vatican Council II and after several discussions at the FMM General Chapters.
  • And it was at the Provincial Chapter 2013, that the decision was made to initiate the Lay Associate Program.

  •  In 1896, Blessed Mary of The Passion, born Helene de Chappotin, foundress of the FMM (1839 - 1904), wrote to her community:
“it would be worthwhile for the cause of the church that they also have lay missionaries in the World little by little, it will come.”
  • From the very beginning, since the founding of the Institute, Blessed Mary of The Passion thought of welcoming into her religious family, Lay people who are eager to participate in the missionary work of the Institute.

Objectives
Lay Associates participate in a relationship with the FMM Sisters. We share a commitment to:

- Spiritual Growth
- Gospel Values
- Social Impact

and Inspired by the life of our Mother Foundress, Blessed Mary of the Passion and St Francis of Assisi.

Who are the FMM Lay Associates?

Catholics who wish to commit themselves to deepen their Baptismal Vocation & Mission of the Laity in the Church.
  • Who witness to the Gospel according to FMM Spirituality and Charism in the manner of Francis & Clare of Assisi.
  • Who has prayer at the heart of their commitment.
  • Who are inspired by the mission and spirituality of the FMMs and have a strong desire to commit themselves based on the time they are available to commit.
Important to Note:
  • The Lay Associates is not a Third Oder & not another Movement in the Church with established structures. We have our own image as a group of FMM Lay Associates.
  • The Institute is not responsible for any personal obligations, either moral or financial.
  • We share certain elements of the FMM charism and spirituality according to our affinity and attraction.

Terms of Commitment:
  • Candidates have the option to make their commitment to the Institute by Promises of self-offering and is renewable annually in a simple and meaningful celebration.
  • Or simply live the spirit and the charism of Mary of the Passion without committing themselves to Promises.
  • The FMM may invite Lay Associates to participate in Feasts and Celebrations in the Institute whenever possible.

Becoming a Lay Associate....Our Commitment.
  • Regular attendance, committed and active.
  • Participation in meetings and formations.
  • Pastoral or social commitment as far as circumstances allow.
  • Communion with the Church.

FEBRUARY 7th 2015.....at Assunta Convent, Petaling Jaya

"We are women of different nations and cultures, choosing to live together in a fragmented world. Revealing the face of Christ by being a humanizing presence among people who suffer and are on the margins.Committing ourselves, with others to the care of creation and to the service of peace, justice and healing, where is most needed."
