Atelier

The Atelier or what is more commondly known as the Vestment Workroom was started in 1955 by Sr. Lilianne, a Canadian FMM. A very creative and artistic Sister, she believed that the vestments of the priests worn during church celebrations should be beautiful and well designed thus imbuing a liturgical sense to the faithful. She also saw it as a mean of evangelization, catechesis, ecumenism and mission as the service developed and involved various other people.

We sew for God, for His ministers, and for his people. From a simple piece of linen for the altar table to magnificent vestments for the clergy. For new-born infants in pure white baptismal gowns to anointed bishop in rich robes, mitre and all. Nothing is too humble nothing is too grand.

Each and every piece of garment is stiched with love as we serve God's family with our sewing skill. Our small workroom not only provides employment to a group of dedicated ladies but is also a bridge for ecumenism as pastors and decons from other Christian denominations walk through our doors and place orders for their liturgical needs.

Currently, four FMM Sisters, three full-time staff, two part-time staff and one volunteer design and sew church vestment, clergy cassocks, stoles, banners, choir gowns, surplices, litugical scapulars, altar cloths, altar frontals, lectern cloths and purificators.

This service is much appreciated not only within the Catholic community but also among the Anglicans, Methodists, Lutherans and Presbyterians.

"We are women of different nations and cultures, choosing to live together in a fragmented world. Revealing the face of Christ by being a humanizing presence among people who suffer and are on the margins.Committing ourselves, with others to the care of creation and to the service of peace, justice and healing, where is most needed."
